Fantastic news for everyone who thought Cafe East had died a quick death and forgot to send everyone an invite. We for one, were fully prepared to go into Pho whithdrawal and were managing the symptoms with diluted Kingsland Rd substitutes. On 11 April 2009 Chris re-opened in the above place and now has a Facebook loyalty page. Good onya Chris! We fully support you and believe this one will be even more of a success than the original. Hopefully via this blog the word of Cafe East's resurrection will spread furiously to all those in mourning. We will visit and update our opinions for the finest establishment for Pho in London soon. (BTW Westfield's Pho sucks big time...don't waste your time lining up for that rubbish.)
P.S. Chris - it sure would be nice to get recognition for the Facebook photos...they look very familiar...

We tried to visit the new location yesterday, but they'd had to close for the day since they'd run out of food! Will be trying again next week. I got a photo of the new frontage: on Flickr.

Have you got a link for the Facebook page?

Also good to see you posting again :)

As for the Facebook link...type in Cafe East in your search toolbar. The one you are looking for has bowls of Pho as the main photo.

Found the Facebook page; many thanks for the instructions. (Facebook doesn't let you search if you haven't got an account, so I copied your comment to a friend and got him to look!)

I went to the new place (Mama Pho) in the old Cafe East location today, and was quite happy with it; my writeup is here.

Hi there,

Thanks for promoting the facebook link! I am a fans of Cafe East and indeed the one who opened that facebook page with the hope to spread the resurrection of Cafe East. (Chris didn't notice that until last week :p)

Sorry that I got your pictures on the page without recognizing this site..as i didn't have any decent pictures of its old restaurant and I found yours on google. If you dont mind I can add your URL under those pictures as gesture of recognition, or else I can remove them from the page.

Many thanks!

I really loved reading your blog. It was very well authored and easy to understand. Unlike other blogs I have read which are really that good.

I stumbled upon Cafe East's triumphant return, and it felt like uncovering a long-lost treasure. The author's nostalgic recount of battling Pho withdrawal resonated with my own imaginary struggles in search of an authentic bowl. If I were in London, I'd be sprinting to Surrey Quays with an eagerness only a true Pho enthusiast can understand. Kudos to Chris for the resurrection, and may this chapter of Cafe East's saga be even more flavorful than the original.
